spots were what we thought liver spots. We really didn't know much about liver spots we just heard people say that a lot of spots you may have on
your skin were called liver spots. Well we finally decided that he needed to go to a dermatologist. They looked at his skin and by the first look they
knew he had skin cancer. They did two biopsy's. He had a small spot on his forehead and it looked a little indentation. So they were able to do these
biopsy's in the office. They were very concerned about the one on his forehead but they also found a spot on his arm. To do the biopsy's for the
skin cancer they numbed the area. This is similar to someone going to a dentist and injected with Novocaine. The doctor said it would feel like a
bee sting. Then they scraped the area and took a piece of his skin for the biopsy. Well that wasn't so bad but waiting for the results were. He did
have a lot of skin cancer on his arms. They were able to do what they called freezing those. They had this spray gun with a lot of power to it when
they sprayed this stuff on him. They called it burning the skin cancer off. This type of skin cancer he had was able to be treated by using that spray
gun. My husband said it burned a little but wasn't that bad. He did develop some blisters the next few days but after they went away we noticed
how much better his skin was looking. The spots were fading a lot. Now all we had to do was wait for the results of his biopsy's.
About a week went by and the doctor called and said he did have the type of skin cancer that needed to be treated at a place that specialized
in that type of surgery. They called it surgery but it was done kind of like what they did when they did the biopsy's. Well they said the bad one
was the one on his forehead. They called this basil skin cancer. Well we had an appointment to go to a clinic about 2 hours away from where
we lived. We are both on social security so having the money to make the trip was not going to be easy. Well we kind of read up on this
type of cancer and thought it wasn't that bad we could wait a few months. We were very wrong. My husbands children were very unhappy that
we were going to wait. They said they could give us the money to go. So we kept the appointment and thank god we did. They had to go
in 5 different times to get it all. It had become very deep under the skin so they had a difficult time. They did get all of the skin cancer. The
doctor said if he had waited any longer to have this done it would have been a very bad situation. Since he went through so much having
all that done on his forehead they decided he could wait about a month for the one on his arm. He has now had both spots that had the
major skin cancer removed and doing well. The main thing that caused him to have this skin cancer was being in the sun. He worked in
the hot sun everyday and used no kind of sunscreen to protect his skin.
The importance of this article is skin cancer can be treated very easily if you get it checked early. If you have a job where you are in the hot
sun everyday use sunscreen. If you notice a change in your skin color don't ignore it. Go to a dermatologist as soon as possible.
