To begin with, philosophy tries to answer the questions related to life and how to live one's life. Most philosophers around the world have tried to answer this question in different ways and this still remains the most important reason why people want to study philosophy and ponder it.
Another important aspect of philosophy is its claim on what real knowledge is and what is not. This is called epistemology and this is also one of the widely discussed disciplines around the world. While some philosophers say that whatever human mind acquires through knowledge is real knowledge, some other philosophers, especially the ones from the East, say that the concept of knowledge itself is an illusion and in realty, the human mind actually does not acquire anything at all. Thus, there are different versions and takes on philosophy around the world.
One of the things that philosophers around the world don't agree with is the concept of mind and the existence of things outside the mind. While some philosophers say that human mind is the only thing that exists for real and everything else we see around the world is an illusion, some other philosophers argue that there are things that exist outside of the human mind and they are as real as human mind.
The impact of philosophy in the course of human history is really big. There have been a number of hugely famous philosophers from all over the world who have come up with their own theories, own versions of philosophy, ideas, and some of them have even formed cults. For a common man, the idea of philosophy is something that he can apply in his real life. It could be anything from anywhere. This is the reason why you see a lot of westerners following eastern philosophy and a lot of easterners following western philosophy and so on. In this aspect, philosophy has truly crossed the barriers and has broken down the shackles of national and linguistic boundaries. However, the idea of philosophy is not an end to itself. It comes up with as many questions as possible to get answers from this universe to come up with newer, better ideas every now and then.
