The Indianapolis Children's Museum: A Must-see Attraction If You Visit Indianapolis, Indiana

If you visit Indianapolis, Indiana, one of the must-see attractions is our Indianapolis Children's Museum. It is the largest children's museum in the world.

It features hands on exhibits that explore science, history, culture and art. It has permanent exhibits like the dinosaur exhibit, hands on science exhibit, a planetarium and Playscape for the younger set.

It also has changeable exhibits. These exhibits rotate throughout the year. They have had a Sesame Street exhibit, a Bob the Builder exhibit and a Clifford the Big Red Dog exhibit. When Halloween comes around, the Indianapolis Children's Museum features a haunted house. At Christmas time, the Indianapolis Children's Museum turns into a Winter Wonderland.

There are always projects for the kids to make and take home. For instance during the Christmas season they may make ornaments.

Toddler's just love the permanent Playscape exhibit. Here they can dig in sand and play in water. They can dress in costumes of different cultures or listen to stories. When my granddaughter visits the Playscape exhibit, I cannot pull her away from it.

My favorite exhibit is the hands on science exhibit. Here you can explore many areas of Science; my favorite is electricity exhibit. They have a ball that you rub and bolts of static electricity make it seem like the ball has harnessed lightening. The Children's Museum also has a planetarium.

My grandsons love to visit the dinosaur exhibit. Here they can actually dig for bones in the archeology exhibit. When you drive by the Indianapolis Children's Museum, you see a giant replica of a Tyrannosaurus Rex destroying the building.

The first thing that you see when you enter the Indianapolis Children's Museum is a five-story working water clock. It is amazing to watch the colored water flow through the giant glass tubes.

One of the most visited features of the museum is the indoor carousel. The children love the lights and sounds as well as the handcrafted animals.

The Indianapolis Children's Museum features both a food court, that houses popular fast food restaurants and a family dining area where you can eat food that you have brought from home. They also have a gift shop.

The cost of a visit is Adults $12.50, Children (2-17) $7.50, Senior (60+) $11.50 and Children under two free. The Children's museum offers free admission the first Thursday of every month from 4 to 8 pm as well as free admission on Martin Luther King Jr, Day, President's Day, April 29 (Day of the Children) and Christmas Eve. The Indianapolis Children's Museum is opened during the Fall/Winter season: Tuesday through Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm and during the Spring/Summer season: Sunday through Saturday 10 am to 5 pm. The Indianapolis Children's Museum is handicapped accessible. It is even possible to rent wheelchairs at the facility.

You can have your child's next birthday party held at the Indianapolis Children's Museum or you can rent the entire facility for special occasions. Groups like the Cub Scouts have even spent the night at the Indianapolis Children's Museum.

My recommendation, if you are coming to Indianapolis, Indiana, is to be sure to make the Indianapolis Children's Museum a stop on your itinerary.
