The Inevitable Kobe Vs. Lebron Finals Matchup

Chris Houston
Who wouldn't want to see an NBA Finals featuring Kobe Bryant vs. Lebron James. The two NBA superstars are on a path destined for collision in this year's Championship series. Boston, the defending NBA champs, have struggled through 7 games finally putting away Chicago without Kevin Garnett. Unless you count the pumped up almost evil stares Garnett has provided television cameras after big Boston buckets. Can anybody in the west stop Kobe and the Lakers, especially with Pau Gasol on the floor? Probably not.

So that sets up what should be the inevitable Kobe vs. Lebron finals matchup. Or some would say the Lebron vs. Kobe matchup. Let's put the biggest superstar first in that equation. Because let's face it, Lebron James, Incorporated is becoming the largest NBA marketing franchise since, guess who, MJ. The NBA wouldn't have it any other way. The two biggest names in the NBA finals. Lakers versus the Cavaliers doesn't sound all that appealing. But Kobe versus Lebron has an incredible ring to it. Does this mean the Finals will finally draw decent television ratings? Most likely. Will the NBA package it as a Lebron vs. Kobe series? You betcha.

Will a team block the path of either? Probably not. Boston would have been the team to beat Cleveland in the Eastern conference playoffs. But Cleveland is much deeper and Boston is missing it's biggest star for the entire playoffs in Garnett. What about the west? Surely someone can slow down the Lakers? Barring injury, it just won't happen. So the NBA, it's fans will get to see the Kobe vs. Lebron matchup it's wanting to see.

Will this be the year that Kobe passes the torch to Lebron? That's a good question. Even in a loss, Lebron will still come out smelling like a rose. Let's face it. He's becoming the game's best all around player if not already. He's the biggest name already surpassing Kobe, especially if the ESPN Sportscenter Top 10 has anything to do with it. Lebron is a regular there.
