The Infidelity Lesson

A.M. Morgan
You broke my heart
But the plot thickens.

You tried to tell me before
But I wouldn't listen.

I ignored what you chose to explore
Looking back I discover some quality time was all you were asking for.

I am partially to blame
But it's hard to escape this current pain.

How could you break the trust that bonded us together?

However, I must admit you were giving eighty percent in the relationship
And I was putting forth only twenty.

I am at the bottom inside of my emotions
Sailing across a turbulent ocean.

I was so naïve yet arrogant to believe
You would be faithful solely upon the strength of me being me.

I misunderstood your language of love.
I disregarded your signals to realign our love.

It's too late to change what's already been done.
This is the lesson I must face in the rising sun.

It's unfortunate that I could not see
All the things you were trying to explain to me.

You now have my undivided attention

But to get it
You had to
Cheat on me

Dang it would take some major prayers to be able to see this clearly through such a painful event. No rose colored glasses here. This is a well constructed, interesting portrayal.

Love the intensity of this. I've met the infidelity monster and he looks handsome until he suddenly looks like Satan.

This poem captures the range of emotions that people often go through when their partner cheats - from anger to guilt. Nice job!

This is well said, expressing what so many face . . . . upon discovering the difficult truth of deception.

I have been through this - have known for sometime that it was going on before it was confessed to me. It hurts like hell but the best thing - the honest to God best thing to dull the heartache is writing about it. I will go to my grave believing this. Lord knows that I have been writing my heart out.
    I truly hope you heal.

Thanks for all of your comments on this poem. This was not written on my personal experience alone. I just wanted to delve into both sides of a difficult and painful subject.
