I think slavery influenced the evolution of both Black and White Americans in many ways. I believe that Black Americans feel they were oppressed, and rightly so. For some unknown reason White Americans got it in their heads that they should own and mistreat people. What they were thinking, I will never know, but I do know the idea did not, as they claimed, come from God.
God did not distinguish and the gifts he has given black people should be evident of that. Black people have the most beautiful singing voices I have ever heard. It is as if the Lord bound the richness of their soul and their background and gave it an outlet in their voices. They sing from their soul.
While I hate to even imply it, the hardship and terror the Black American's had to endure seemed only to enrich their spirit, strength and beauty. I in no way mean that the White Americans were correct or just in their treatment of the Black Americans. It just appears that the Black Americans did not let their experiences and circumstances dictate who or what they were. I admire that greatly.
I admire how most Black Americans do not think of themselves as victims of their ancestors' circumstances. I love that they are strong and resilient, not bending to the will of others. I am aware that the Black Americans of today are not left unaffected by the treatment of their ancestors. That is a normal reaction to oppression, what astounds me is the inner strength of this race of people who would not be divided and would not be conquered. Instead, Black Americans rode out the storm of their slavery and demoralization and the second they were given the chance, rose above their circumstances and took a stand. They continued to rise throughout the years until the world around them finally decided to accept them as equals.
I know that there is some lingering influence from slavery still today. I find this completely detestable. We are supposed to be the most advanced, free, Christian, moral country in the world and our vision is still clouded by the color of skin. I sometimes marvel at the hypocrisy of America the Beautiful.

Post a CommentYour heart was in the right place but everything you said about "black people" was completely stereotypical (i.e. "they have the most beautiful singing voice."). Even what you said about "white people." No one race is full of bigots or oppressors. I'm 100% against racism but there are many of my race who are not. There is good and bad in both.
I didn't read one thing in your post that had to do with the title!!! Troy, bravo to you!!!!!
This article is just your opinion it states no conclusive facts showing any modern reverberations of slavery. You make some good arguments but some are ad hominem fallacy.
i think that even if black people doesnt like white they are right it is a natural fact for me.i dont know why i have nothing against white but i dont like them they will forever consider black to be inferior
I am in college at the UOP and right now I am taking a course on Ethnicity. It was brought up that we owe Americans of African Descent conpensation, or repairations for their ancestors being slaves. Yet how many of you realize that up to half, and some estimates claim up ti 2/3 of all colonists in the Americas where WHITE slaves who where worked to death on plantations and mines in the New World? this practice stared in the 1600's and continued until the 1800's. it consisted mostly of children kidnapped from the streets of Briton and the terms where often for life. Children of white slaves where born into bondage, and in many cases, free African land owners possessed and brutalized their WHITE slaves. research it for your self.
I don't care if the whole world was doing it or not. People are born with a conscious and if that makes me naive, so be it. People, no matter what the color (Black Americans, African Americans, whatever you feel better calling them) are NOT business, they are people. As I said earlier, I don't care how often it was done, why it was done, or who it was done by, OWNING A PERSON is wrong on so many levels this conversation is completely moot.
First of all its not Black American's. Its african americans. Second, you have a huge stereotype of white people. Of course slavery was wrong, but back then the whole world did it. The only reason they were prejudiced later, yes, was because of slavery. Slave holders were running a business. No i don't think it was right but your being naive.
Me: "My gosh you all act as if racism (from whites) is just around every turn." -- No one is saying that racism is around every turn but you would be deluded to think that it is gone entirely. The recent election with Obama being considered for president caused some serious issues ESPECIALLY in the south. If we're bringing personal experience to the table, it will have to be known that while traveling through those Southern states (with my truck driver husband) the CB was littered with whites trashing Obama on his ethnicity alone. Granted, he was elected president but that is because the MAJORITY rules, and thank God the majority are not racist. That does NOT imply that racism has been eliminated. I am a white person and I am not "kissing butt" by stating truth. It's unfortunate that you interpret it that way, but I have to believe that, again, the MAJORITY will be intelligent enough to understand my message.
What a stereotype! I agree that there are many people of color with beautiful singing voices, but some of the worst voices are from black artists as well... Lil' John and Jah-rule (sp?) to name a few.
My gosh you all act as if racism (from whites) is just around every turn. This is such bull... I am mostly from the south and have found blacks to be far more racist than whites. I am of course not saying all blacks are racist, but I have found that more are than not. Some black people are like everyone else (whites, Spanish, Asians, and so forth), just trying to live a stress free, fun-filled, and honest life. All of you white people on here kissing butt... really, come on. All you black people looking for everyone to be racist, looking for a reason to hate... stop and enjoy the life you have before it's over.
