rochelle moore
World War 2 is considered to be a far more intersting war than any of the others to date for a number of reasons. This war was seen as a "people's war" by many effecting the lives from many nations. The war includes attack upon and the conquest of several major nations, attributed to the development of a variety of technologies, large political upheavels with these changes causing a dramatic effect on society in general.

World War 2 had a considerable effect on the literature and media of today. It provided a diverse array of materials for books, television programmes, movies which began during the war period. The book "The Longest Day" was made into a movie in the 1960's which was a time that war movies reached their peak. Other movies made around this period which were directly influenced by World War 2 include; Battle of Britain, The Great Escape and Patton.

This war also features in many thousands of novels and other works of literature which include many published in the 1990's. There are also comedy programmes based on this war including Blackadder, Dad's Army and the British sitcom "Allo Allo". In the USA many non-war related TV programmes such as The Simpsons, Sienfeld frequently make reference to World War 2 related subjects and people such as Adolf Hitler, the Holocost and the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

The war was also directly influential on popularity of soccer and the competition and rivalries. Chants of soccer fans e.g, The English soccer fans use many of the original chants dating back to world war 2. An example of this rivalry is clear during the European Cup in 1966 where England V Germany whereby the English fans sang; "2 world wars and one world cup, do dah, do dah".

Another modern day development which stemmed from World War 2 is the media franchise and video games. This is an extremely lucrative business and includes traditional war boardgaming such as Axis and Allies. Minature tabletop wargaming includes games such as Spearhead, Flames of War with the height of this particular industry is the free internet wargames such as Final Round.

One of the main reasons for the popularity of World War 2 is that is seen as much more than a war between the Axis and the Allies. Many see this war as a war for the human soul with some describing it as a war between good and evil. Finally, to date World War one figures very prominently in many thousands of books and literature covering various aspects from the virulent ideology, agression, barbarism subscribed to by both the Nazi and the Japanese regimes.

Oh Lord, if you people, the author included, actually knew anything about history at all, you would know that World War II was caused by World War I - thus rendering World War I as the world-changing war. FFS, learn about what you are going to talk about BEFORE you open your mouths! (I'm not even going to get started about the shallow nature of this article...)
