If you don't know the real headline 1990's story to begin with? These 45 minutes will be confusing as a film viewer, especially whenever ADM bio-chemist Mark Whitacre (Matt Damon) talks and narrates about "price-fixing" and also how the price of lysine, an additive used in the commercial livestock industry is used in the "world-wide monopoly" of so many everyday consumer eating products.
"Ironically?" What ADM employee whistle-blower (1992-1995 recordings) Mark Whitacre seemed to forget was one little tiny fact that he somehow did NOT ever mention to the FBI agents throughout these (3) three years of recordings and investigation, is the simple fact that he received cash payment kick-backs for certain "mysterious transactions" which had been going on before his dealings with the FBI agents in charge?
Mark tells FBI agents Brian Shepard (Scott Backula) and agent Robert Herndon (Joel Mchale), while sitting in a restaurant booth one day, that he had received as much as $500,000.00 in payments via different checking accounts paid in $10,000.00 increments each week. The look on agent Shepard's face (Scott Bakula) was absolutely hilarious! "He almost choked on his food!"
"You immediately think as a film viewer?" How could this highly-paid corporation guy possibly be this stupid if this was a TRUE story as stated at the very beginning of the film?" In other words. This employee of this gigantic world-wide corporation wants to blow the whistle on corporate "price fixing, which is also called a monopoly on prices" not realizing at the same time that he is committing company embezzlement and criminal fraud? "This is where the story comedy begins!"
ADM employee Whitacre comically claims that he was framed the same as Tom Cruise in the film called "The Firm". Even at times. He claimed his supposedly upper-managers forced him to forge certain checking accounts just so he could receive these payments of $10,00.00 or less and even more "ironically" while he was secretly working with the FBI investigation of "price fixing", however, forgetting to mention this one little tiny fact of embezzlement, which he stupidly forgot for some strange reason, that he claims to legal experts of course later on?
Naturally, after the FBI learned of his forgery and embezzlement of company funds. The investigation turned over too company employee Mark Whitacre as a criminal defendant. The FBI agents tried their very best to convince their superiors to continue with the "price fixing" investigation, but at the time they were more concerned about the embezzlement of millions of dollars paid remarkably into via illegal checking accounts with phony names to this particular ADM employee called Mark Whitacre.
Mark Whitacre (Matt Damon) still stupidly pro-claimed that he was the "good guy" during this entire year after year FBI investigation! Giving the FBI over 100 recorded tapes of the alleged "price fixing" case. Although, the ADM attorneys seemed to think differently? Because of his forgery and embezzlement of company funds over his years of company employment, which they continuously fought.
Mark always stated to FBI agents that he was the "cowboy wearing the white hat" ready to kill the bad guys to simply protect his family and all consumer Americans? But at the same time, turned out to be one of the greatest white collar thief's and liars in the history of corporate America! as portrayed in this non-fictional documentary film originally written by journalist's novel Kurt Eichenwald.
Supposedly, as portrayed in the film. Employee Mark Whitacre's original intention was to take over the ADM corporation and eventually become head CEO of this gigantic corporation by revealing the "price fixing" to the FBI of these huge world-wide companies that all seemed to agree on this illegal method of daily consumer products.
Mark Whitacre, lost his whistle blower's immunity as a result of $9 million in various frauds, and consequently spent eight and a half years in federal prison, will most likely go down in history as being the most stupid employee of white collar crimes, he has recently been reported in 2009 as and or currently being the chief operating officer and President of Operations at Cypress Systems, a California biotechnology firm? "Call this guy sometimes! He loves to talk, especially about himself!"
This is most likely Matt Damon's greatest comical performance in all of his career films. Recently, he has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in the 2009 film called "Invictus". His greatest action adventure films such as the "Bourne Supremacy saga's" could possibly be his best to be truly remembered by viewers simply because of his physical attributes and martial arts expertise.
I personally have always loved and respected Matt Damon in the dramatic heart-warming 1997 film called "The Rainmaker" where he takes on this gigantic insurance company law-suit and eventually wins in the end as a caring recent law graduate. His romantic talented charm and extreme intelligence as a great actor was honestly revealed on-screen for any viewer. Especially his "great smile and voice" this guy has in everyday life!
Hopefully? This incredible 39 year Hollywood actor will continue with these dramatic roles in his career. It's obvious that he is still searching for a place to be remembered in his career, after taking on this unfortunate degrading role in this 2009 film called "The Informant!" Although, film critics gave it a B+ rating, the Yahoo.com viewers gave it an overall rating of C+. Simply stating that the film was "just confusing and much too complicated to understand for the everyday film or movie theater viewer?"
Most film critics like San Francisco Chronicle Amy Biancolli stated: The first hour or so, is four-star entertainment. The last half hour, not so much. And also stated by: E! Online Matt Stevens "This odd-but-true tale tries to piece fraud, embezzlement and bipolar disorder into a satirical framework, but like Damon's dopey toupee, the fit is never quite right." Hollywood Reporter Kirk Honeycutt "A comedy about corporate fraud, malfeasance and a mental disorder that never quite succeeds as a comedy."
