The Invasion of the Gigantic Crab

Zenovia B.
Move over Godzilla there's a new monster in town , except instead of invading Japan and being a fictitious character he is living in Britain and is very real and he's not destroying buildings.

If you are someone who loves crab (which I am not, but I am not really sure because I haven't tried crab legs and I am 46) then this big boy will make your mouth water.

This gigantic crab nicknamed "Crabzilla" after the fictional giant monster the Japanese Spider Crab has the body the size of a basketball and it's legs can straddle a car. They will eventually measure to be 15ft.

The crab, called Macrocheira Kaempferi in Latin, was caught by the fisherman in the Pacific Ocean and has now been imported to Britain where it has gone on display at the National Sea Life Centre in Birmingham, England.

According to Wikipeida. Com, "The crab's natural habitat is on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean around Japan, where it feeds on dead animals and shellfish. It is believed to have a life expectancy of up to 100 years."

"The Japanese Spider crab is caught using small trawling nets, and often eaten salted and steamed. Catching of the crab is forbidden during the spring, when it lays its egg."

So if you do happen to be the fisherman who catches one of these giant species and decides to eat it, make sure of you have plenty of butter and a big lobster bib!
