The Island of Love - Chapter Seven Part Four

Her head whirled, as she stepped into the house to search for Jake. She thought she would faint. Her mind was distorted with thoughts of Demetri and what she had just witnessed. Frantically, she looked for Jake. He was no where to be found. She walked into the hall and then she saw him.

"Jake, I have to go home."

"What? I don't understand. We've just got here."

She felt horrible to have to ask him to take her home, but she didn't want to stay here another minute.

"Don't worry, Jake. Just get me a taxi like we agreed. If you would be kind enough to get someone to call for it."

"No, I'll take you home myself and come back here alone, but why do you want to go?"

She couldn't tell him the truth. There was too much to explain.

"I've got a splitting headache and I feel very sick. I can't stand the noise. I'm sorry I've ruined your evening, but I thought you didn't want to leave the party at any time to take me home."

"No you haven't ruined it for me, Phillipa. I was silly to bring you here in the first place. Come on. We'll go now. It doesn't matter at the moment if I take you home, because I haven't spoken to her yet. I'll come straight back after I've taken you home."

She felt glad to get out of there once she was sitting in Jake's rented car. The drive back took longer than she expected, as she sat in silence feeling the sadness cripple her insides. Her stomach ached with unhappiness knowing she couldn't marry Demetri now. How could she after seeing him with someone else? He was only after her for lust. It was obvious he didn't care about her. Why did he want to marry her anyway? It was a waste of time and money for his family. She couldn't do it. She had to break it off, but she knew she couldn't bare to see Demetri again after tonight. It was too painful.

The car stopped and Jake got out with her and walked with her to the door. When they got there, she couldn't believe her eyes. She saw Demetri sitting on the veranda, waiting for her. His smiling face turned to thunder when he saw Jake behind her with his hand on her waist guiding her.
