The Jacksonville Jaguars: Best Players of the 2000's

A Decade of the Jacksonville Jaguars

Bryan Mckinley
I was shocked when I found the Jacksonville Jaguars have only been to the playoffs twice in the 2000's. They are currently 7-7 in the 2009 NFL season, but would have to win out and get some help along the way if they are to add a third playoff appearance in the past decade. It seems like every season the Jaguars are full of potential, but potential isn't enough. The Jaguars have just not been able to get everything clicking for more than one season every few years. The Jaguars have had a lot of good, but not great players in the past decade, but yet I still had to leave one great player off of this list. My apologies to Maurice Jones-Drew, but even with all of those touchdowns, he only has one 1,000-yard season. There is a pretty good chance that Jones-Drew will produce many 1,000 yard seasons in the future, but he didn't get enough carries in the 2000's to make it on this decade's list. Out of all the players that wore a Jacksonville Jaguars jersey, these are the best five of the 2000's. (Only accomplishments and stats while playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2000-2009 were considered.)

1. Fred Taylor - Fred Taylor often goes unmentioned when talking about the best running backs in the 2000's, but he deserves to get some recognition for just how good he was. From 2000-2008, Taylor had six 1,000 yard seasons rushing and 47 total touchdowns.

2. Jimmy Smith - The Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver produced the same kind of numbers from 2000-2005 that he did in the late 1990's. In those six seasons, Smith had four 1,000 yard seasons and 31 touchdowns. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2000 and 2001.

3. John Henderson - Henderson has spent his entire eight year career with the Jacksonville Jaguars. In that time, he has amassed 418 tackles, and 29.5 sacks as a defensive tackle. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2004 and 2006.

4. Rashean Mathis - In seven seasons with Jacksonville, Mathis has 406 tackles, 28 interceptions and three defensive touchdowns. He earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2006, by having 63 tackles and eight interceptions.

5. David Garrard - Garrard was drafted by Jacksonville in 2002, but has only been their permanent starting quarterback since halfway through the 2006 season. While with the Jaguars, Garrard has 12,882 yards passing and 64 touchdown passes, while running for another 11 touchdowns.
