The New Jersey Nets Need One Good Bounce

Vonda Menard
Using bouncing ping pong balls to determine a NBA draft order seems silly, and unfair. Ping Pong balls belong on ping ball tables, not in the NBA. This season, the New Jersey Nets are the worse team in basketball, and they'll be awarded the most balls in the lottery, theoretically giving them the greatest chance at this years top pick, but it's only a chance. If New Jersey's misfortunes continue, they could not only miss out on this years top draft pick, they could select as low as 4th. If this happens, David Stern should call a do over, or force the team with the top pick to forfeit it to the Nets.

The Nets have the worse record in the NBA, and the team with the second worse record, the Minnesota Timberwolves, have twice as many victories. The Nets offense is ranked last in the NBA, with an anemic 91.1 points per game. How bad does a team need to get, to be awarded the top pick?

It's no secret John Wall would be the Nets pick. The Nets need John Wall, not only for his incredible basketball skills, but to get fans excited about this team again. If the Nets draft John Wall, they could move Devin Harris to shooting guard, and have an incredible back court. With Wall, Harris, and Lopez, the Nets would have something solid to build on.

If the Nets don't gain the #1 pick, I imagine part owner, Jay-Z will pen a nice little rap song for the NBA, and it's lottery system, and I'm guessing it'll be for mature audiences only. While every team in the NBA would like a chance at John Wall, few teams desperately need him, and there isn't a team more desperate then New Jersey, not even the Knicks. With the planned move to Brooklyn, the Nets need a face of their franchise, and John Wall could be that.

When David Stern walks to the podium to announce the first pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, if it's not New Jersey's pick, all Nets fans will hear is, blah, blah, blah we got screwed.

  • The New Jersey Nets can pick anywhere from 1st to 4th depending on the bounce of the ping pong balls
  • The Nets are clearly the worse team in the NBA, and deserving of the top pick.
  • If awarded the top pick, John Wall will be the Nets selection.
