The Jonas Brothers: Clean Fun for Your Teens and Tweens

3D Movie, Camp Rock, the Gospel and Chastity Rings!

Kathryn E. Darden
Why the Jonas Brothers? I'm glad you asked!

Popular culture is the shiny grappling hook that attracts teens and tweens, and there is no bait more enticing on that hook than popular music. The artists and groups your kids listen to will have as much impact on them -- or possibly more impact on them -- than church or school, and will possibly exert more influence on them than YOU do if you are not careful. It is important to know what music your kids listen to and to dialogue with them frequently about their choices whether you are a parent, older sibling, pastor, or youth worker.

If your kids are into the Jonas Brothers, a boy band that gained their popularity from the children's television network, the Disney Channel, your kids are in good hands. This extraordinarily popular singing threesome from Wyckoff, New Jersey, is known for their wholesome, "family-friendly" image as well as the popularity of their songs, CDs, concerts, and movies.

In 2006, on the heels of their Spring 2006 debut project, It's About Time, releasing on INO Records, the Jonas Brothers' came to Gospel Music Week in Nashville where they first came to my attention. The pop-punk style of the talented band of brothers gave life to uplifting, positive lyrics. When the Jonas Brothers came to Nashville again in January of 2009 and played at the Ryman Auditorium, showing up to support them were local gospel artists including Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, and Steven Curtis Chapman, as well as country artists like Faith Hill and Tim McGraw.

Although they are not known as gospel artists, the Jonas Brothers are the Evangelical sons of an Assemblies of God pastor. The siblings: Kevin Jonas, Joe Jonas, and Nick Jonas were successfully home schooled by their mother and are unapologetic followers of Jesus Christ.

The Jonas Brothers all wear chastity rings, also known as purity rings, on their left-hand ring finger to signify their vow to abstain from premarital sex. Joe has said that the rings symbolize "a promise to ourselves and to God that we'll stay pure till marriage." The Jonas Brothers also avoid alcohol, tobacco, drugs and other vices.

On the weekend of February 27 through March 1,2009, the Jonas Brothers are partnering with Disney to release a 3D movie to launch their world tour and new CD. A Disney Digital 3-D production crew filmed the two shows in Anaheim, California in 2008. The Jonas Brothers hope the G-rated movie will be the largest 3D opening in film history.

Youngest brother Frankie Jonas is also getting into the act, scheduled to appear in the sequel to Camp Rock, a 2008 Disney Channel Original Movie starring the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato, as well as the Jonas Brothers' upcoming big screen feature debut in Walter the Farting Dog.

The Jonas Brothers plan to make 2009 a year in which they share everything with their fans. To that end, they have established an interactive web site: www.FanFamilyExperience.com.

They are adorable! And one of them (forgot which one) is seriously diabetic. When performing, he has to shoot insulin several times because all of the activity makes his glucose plunge. (I saw an interview.)

Refreshing celebrities. May God give them the strength to remain so.

Good to see the Jonas brothers planning to abstain until marriage. Joe Jonas kind of went down in my book though after he dumped Taylor Swift in a 20 second breakup over telephone.

I've never heard of the Jonas Brothers.. but great article.

The Jonas brothers are a big deal to my 14 year old niece. Another important factor for her is knowing that one of them (she knows which one) is diabetic. Her mom is and she feels a connection and is concerned for him. I certainly join you in recommending these young people. Thier parents and brother travel right with them to and I find that refreshing as a parent.

Great article. I'm sure a lot of teens enjoy them.
