Away from my home
Here on the hot, arid steppes
Away from the centers of people
In the middle of desolation
The heat drives the thirst from my throat
The taste of hot, dusty air
Quells the need for drink
From the throats of the dead
Scattered amongst the hills around me
My feet have brought me here
One step after another, after another, after another
My sprint to leave behind what I cannot bear
Taken at the slowest pace of a dying man
Walking towards his inevitable execution
I would curse the one who brought me to this place
The one who sent me on this journey, this quest
But I cannot, for he is myself and damned I already am
To walk alone in this world
My solitude, my grief, my regret as my sole companions
My choices were made long ago
My path laid bare before me
I walk my highway of solitude
No pavement to mark my way
No markers to gauge the distance
....my path
