"The Joy of Less" by Francine Jay: A Review

Annie Jean Brewer
When Francine Jay first released her book "The Joy of Less" I was delighted at the opportunity to support one of my fellow Minimalists. I hopped on Amazon and happily purchased my copy of this book based simply on her blog, which I read when I can.

This is not one of those books that encourage you to throw all of your stuff away; rather it is an in-depth look at leaving consumerism behind by focusing (and keeping) only that which you really need.

She discusses the fact that we tend to equate self-worth with the amount of stuff that we own, and then points out that we are NOT our stuff, that in fact we are so much more.

She goes through a home room by room as she gives functional tips to eliminate the dross so common in all of our lives.

I found this book not only to be an excellent work concerning the minimalist movement but feel it should also be a must-read for anyone who feels overwhelmed with their home; be it as a result of clutter, lack of organization or whatever. Her nonjudgmental way of looking at the situation is a breath of fresh air in the Minimalist movement, and I highly recommend this work for anyone wanting to simplify their lives.
