Christmas is a time for good will towards man. It has been from my experience, that no matter how much people need to spend on others for gifts, they are always apparent with the intentions of happiness. It's that time of the season, I suppose, or is it just a time for people to let go of their own problems, and feel generally gratuitous over life, and the rest of the human race?
We may never know exactly why most people are filled with happiness at this time in the year, but there are some good reasons as to why.
Getting into the holiday
A lot of people are filled with achievement and full of smiles after a wonderous decoration. Houses light up blocks at a time, good ole' St.Nick is plastered over doorbells, on the lawn, and even on roofs commanding his reindeer companions. He brings about a symbol of jolliness with everyone from children to elders. The rainbows of light are attractive in a calming sort of way.
Those beautiful carols
A good reason for a lot of people to get into the spirit, including myself, is the wonderfully relaxing and soothing sounds of Christmas. From carolers on the street performing, and even going door to door, to the old time favorites from some of the great celebrities of past. Music really brings up the spirits of humans, and the type of music brings people together to show love and support.
Family ties
To a lot of people, Christmas is about giving. It's about getting that perfect present for your loved ones, especially family members that you have not seen in a long time. It's about rejoicing in life, and sharing stories. Catching up, and having a glass or two of eggnog. It's about seeing that guy or girl that you've had a crush on for what seems like forever, hanging out under the mistletoe. Connections between humans grow at a prosperous time such as the holidays.
A warm cup of Coacoa
Some things can set off triggers to remind you of your youth around the holidays. One of those senses for me, is a nice cup of coacoa (with marshmallows, of course!) under a warm blanket, by a crisp and lushious fire. The smell of the tree is another big one, as it's effects seem to twirl me back to being 8 again, awaiting those crushing hours until I could rip open each of those presents.
Presents!!!
A lot of people, children most especially, await that night before Christmas with the butterflies in their stomach. The thought of Santa Clause hopping down their chimney to munch on some delicious cookies followed by a wonderous glass of milk to hit the spot. Stockings filled with candy and other useful trinkets. Nothing though, compares to that moment that a person gets that undefinable box in their hand, a beautiful colored bow on the top, and shakes it around for a hope as to what is inside. It's at that essential moment, right before you tear the paper, open up the box, and find out exactly what that secret was that is the grandest of times.
For myself, especially as a child, I loved the mood that the time set. Everything from the music, to (especially) the presents, it was a wonderous occasion. Let us not forget about the food! After all of the hype is over, you sit down to a beautifully cooked meal that satisfies the urges of hunger that slipped by your mind until the moment you opened the presents. Meat and pies galore, this holiday sums up what humanity should be like year round. We should be giving, we should be happy and excited, we should help our fellow man. Instead of waiting for the holiday season to bring forth our efforts, so many of us view it as a special time to drop our guard and help.
Yet, really, is that not what makes the time so special? People are plagued by fears, doubts, problems, and heartbreak throughout the year, those few nights when Christmas is upon us, gives humanity a chance to relax, calm down a bit, and be grateful for being alive!
