State of Madhya Pradesh in India is full of the historical and pilgrimage places, which are really worth visiting. Jabalpur is one such city that serves as a tourists place as well as the place of pilgrimage. Jabalpur is the district headquarters and is having population of around half a million people. This city is situated on the bank of holy River Narmada flowing in its full glory.

Jabalpur can easily be reached by the train from Mumbai or Ahmedabad by a direct train of Western Railway. It takes around 14 hours by the express train to reach Jabalpur from Mumbai. The trains are very convenient as they leave by around 7 pm from Mumbai and reaches at Jabalpur at 9 am next morning. Jabalpur is having lot of marble and black stone mines. Hence, marble and black stones are very cheap here in this area. These mines also give a typical natural beauty to this ancient city and it's near bye area. There are many places to be seen at Jabalpur. The palace of Durgadevi, which is known as Madan Mahal, is one of the main tourist attractions. This palace is having three floors and is made in circular design in such a way that the main Seating hall of the king can be viewed from any remote corner of the palace. One can reach Bhedaghat, which is located on the bank of holy River Narmada, quiet easily by hired car, taxi, or the city bus service. There is an ancient temple of sixty four Jognis here. It is said that all sixty four Goddesses come here to stay with Devi Narmada here at Jabalpur during some auspicious nights. The boating facility at Bhedaghat is excellent and offers the rowing boat at the rate of around Rs.250 ($4.25) per hour. The boating in late evening hours and during the moonlit nights can be really a memorable experience of the life. The sound of River Narmada flowing very rapidly here is really very sweet and gives all the tourists lot of peace and spiritual energy. The tourists invariably visit The Dhuandhar Falls, which is situated around 3 miles from Bhedaghat. The water of River Narmada falls from the height of around 125 feet at a very high speed. The water falling on the white marble stones at the bottom of the River creates lot of white foam and the entire atmosphere becomes blurring due to tiny water particles in the form of the mist. The experience of standing below this water fall is really unique and cannot be forgotten that easily. The tourists can enjoy the picnic lunch here at this falls.

There are other places like Maladevi temple, cave of Lord Dattatreya, and the Gloryghat that must not be missed during the visit to Jabalpur. The Jain temples of Pisan, located in the center of the city of Jabalpur are also worth seeing. These Jain temples have an exquisite marble engraving on all its walls. The life stories of all the Jain Tirthankars are displayed in these Jain temples. There are many good hotels at Jabalpur to stay for the tourists. These hotels are in all varieties, starting from Rs.120 ($3) per day to Rs.2400 ($60) per day, based on the amenities offered by them. The hotels like Hotel Jabalpur International, Hotel Narmada, Hotel Sita, and the Hotel Galaxy are some of the most luxurious hotels of the city of Jabalpur. All these hotels provide the three star amenities with colored TV set with cable connection, offering the viewing of around 180 Indian channels. The drinking water of this city is very pure as it is coming from the River Narmada. You need to stay here at Jabalpur for around 2 to 3 days to cover the all site seeing spots with ease and leisure.

I have been to Jabalpur once during the winter of the year 2006 and the memory of the bath taken by me in the water falling in Dhuandhar falls becomes fresh in my mind. I would wish that all my AC friends also can have this unique experience of visiting this beautiful and peaceful city of Jabalpur in the State of Madhya Pradesh in India.
