While some make is a special occasion to give thanks, maybe watch the Thanksgiving Day parades, help out at their church or at a food kitchen, others have big gatherings of family and friends and a table full of traditional Thanksgiving dishes.
Then after dinner, while the children play out in the yard, the women wash the dishes, and the men watch football.
Finally, everyone goes home, and for many the day after Thanksgiving, Black Friday is an equally special day, with the best shopping bargains of the year.
I thought I would write a poem about this. It's not based on any particular memories in particular, just a mixture from over the years.
I hope you enjoy it...
Families and friends come gather around
A table of food, it looks really grand
It's a reason to gather and all celebrate
All being a part of the United States
There's turkey and ham
And veggies and dip
And Grandma's potato salad
There's nothing quite like it
There's macaroni cheese and baked beans
Each brings their own special dish
Then Salads and coleslaw
And pumpkin pie in a dish
The children run around
Playing games outside
Having fun, burning energy
Leaving grown ups aside
Who chat and drink
And play games of their own
Or sit and watch football
With full stomachs that groan
Guests leave and go home
Early night, early up
Just got to be up in time
For the Black Friday shop

Post a CommentLovely.
I actually have shopped on Black Friday, but unless there are items that you REALLY want, it's just too stressful. I spent an hour shopping at Best Buy one year, ending up with a DVD Player for $70 (back then they were still all over $150), some DVD's, and a 14" tv. It took me an hour and a half to checkout, queueing from the back of the store and gradually moving to the front. Never again!
Lovely poem Tony :)
Good good Tony. So you shop on Black Friday?
Yep, that pretty much sounds like MYThanksgiving every year:)
Nice job. I really enjoyed it!
good poem. having a hard time getting to look at my friend's articles
In Asian societies, there is a trend for the traditions to lose their footing in a mad, mad world, where everyone is rushing without focus. Life will lose its meaning, if we lose our moorings! Nice and sweet poem, remembring all; the people, food & things - siva
