The Kanye West / Taylor Swift Incident and the Racist Aftermath

Phew.. the racism has been afire all over the Internet since the Kanye West debacle: "ni**er" this; "ni**er" that. Perhaps most disturbing is how some are using Kanye's behavior to justify attacks on an entire race. I've in fact encountered several instances today of people anxious to point out the one common denominator with the Kanye/Selena/Jamie-Foxx fiascos. Reading all the hatred online makes me feel like I'm living in a country full of HS students unable or unwilling to grow up. There's a time and place for everything -- including buffoonery and humor. But when we as adults succumb to the sins of prejudice, hatred, and intolerance, we are only winding the clock back on our own inner growth. It's not worth it and I'm certain that the lovely Miss Taylor Swift would agree as well.

Many even spoke about missing out on Jay Leno's return due to Kanye's appearance and subsequent interview. Personally, I found the interview to be refreshing and am glad he is taking responsibility for his poor actions. He's not perfect, but I'm not one to cast a stone. I forgive him, Joe Wilson, Selena, Chris Brown, Immus, Michael Richards, Jamie Foxx and anybody else who has screwed up in the past (even former President Bush!). I don't know them personally and so I'm in no position to "HATE" or judge them. And it's ultimately up to Miss Taylor Swift to forgive Kanye West -- which I know in my heart she will gladly do -- and NOT US.

The funny thing about the whole incident is that I had no clue who Taylor Swift was until this happened. I don't listen to Miss Swift, Jay-Z, or Kanye West; I prefer the rugged tones and lyrics of Southern rappers like Trae, Lil Keke, Lil Boosie, and Slim Thug. Due to Kanye's atrocious actions, Miss Swift has just earned a new fan. I admittedly won't be listening to her music anytime soon, but I'll definitely be keeping an eye on her wikipedia page :-D.

Hmm. INTERESTING! I've heard of the rumors that it was staged, but I'm not certain. It'd be QUITE a trip to find out that it was all planned beforehand. Hollywood... pshh! HEATHENS! :-D

"It's kind of become more of a big deal than I ever thought it would be." Swift's said on a recent radio interview.

Which goes back to the original theory that this was all contrived. Brand was boorish and boring. This incident got twitter and facebook and text messages flowing immediately. Folks tuned in suddenly who had probably already turned the channel, Taylor got plenty of sympathy CD purchases, Leno got the viewer bump he needed for his first night's same-o, same-o show,Beyonce got gratitude CD purchases for her generosity (and -- let's be real -- her virtual lap dance), Kanye even got a few buys from loyal fans, most likely. I am not believing that there was anything more than tea in the Hennessee bottle. Ya'll may have just been punk'd.
