Kate Gosselin was born Katie Irene Kreider on March 28, 1975 in Hersey, Pennsylvania. Parents Charlene and Kenton Kreider welcomed their daughter at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. This is the same hospital Kate would deliver her sextuplets 29 years later.

Kate met Jon Gosselin at a picnic on October 5, 1997. Kate has been quoted as saying "I never believed in 'love at first sight,' but this came really close. Jon was walking across the grass and I saw him and was instantly intrigued!" They were married less than two years later on June 12, 1999. Six months after meeting, Jon proposed to Kate. They were married in Pennsylvania. Kate was 24 and Jon just 22 years old.

Kate was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. It is a metabolic disorder that affects some 14 million women. They began fertility treatments, and on October 8, 2000, Kate delivered twin girls, Cara and Madelyn.

Four years later, they used fertility treatments again, and Kate gave birth to sextuplets on May 20, 2004 to three girls Alexis, Hannah and Leah and three boys Aaden, Collin and Joel.

The show began as a fun way to capture family memories, and was a positive in their lives. However, in 2009, the intense publicity of the family and show began to take over their lives. Allegations surfaced that both Kate and Jon were having affairs. Then, in June 2009 the couple announced their separation.

While Kate is traveling, Jon stays home with the children. The Gosselin home is in Reading, Pennsylvania. After the separation, Kate and Jon decided to remain in the home for the children. While Kate is traveling, Jon stays with the kids at the home. When Kate is home, Jon lives in a rented penthouse in New York City.
