The Keys to Happiness During a Recession
How to Maximize Your Downtime While Unemployed and Be Happy Doing It
There are many things you can do to stay busy while waiting for the opportunity to get back into the workforce. Do not spend your time in doldrums but rather find some activities that are worthwhile and beneficial to you: go back to school; learn new skills; and offer your free time to help out in the community.
Earn a College Degree
If you do not have a college degree yet, work on completing one while you have some free time. Go for an associate's degree at a minimum. Obtaining a degree will enhance your knowledge and it will help you in the long run because many companies usually hire those who have a degree under their belt over non-graduates. You can also apply for a higher position than what you had before with your newly acquired degree. Do your best in school and that will truly impress your next boss: Educational prowess means big salary and extensive bonuses in today's economy. Get ahead of the competition by securing your future with a college education.
Acquire New Skills
You may be an expert in computers or in the automotive industry, but learning also how to manage your financial portfolio will greatly increase your chances in getting rehired. The more skills you have, the better your resumé will be; and as you may already know, an outstanding and well-crafted resumé will put you over and above the other applicants for the same position that you will be applying for in the future, so work on amassing new skills to include in your resumé and you will undoubtedly get your foot in the door before anybody else.
Volunteer Activities
Get involved in your community by becoming a volunteer. Your child's school needs volunteer like you to help out the teachers in disseminating scholastic information to other parents and guardians. Even if you have no children, you can still assist the school in your community by volunteering as a reading or writing tutor. You can even offer your free time teaching kids how to play basketball, baseball, or any other sports.
As you see, there are many keys to staying happy even during rough times: Just keep looking for them to unlock the untapped potential within you. Success and contentment are within reach if you dig down deep inside and release your inhibitions.
