There are over 700 license agents in the state of South Carolina that issue fishing license. You can also purchase them online at www.dnr.sc.gov or Toll Free at 1-866-714-3611, and at Department of Natural Resources offices in Columbia, Clemson, Charleston, and Florence. You should carry your fishing license on you at all times while fishing. Never let anyone borrow your license. This is considered unlawful and your privileges can be suspended for one year. In South Carolina, the license year begins on July 1, 2008 and ends on June 30, 2009. Once they are expired you may no longer use them. People who have been South Carolina residents for 180 days or more, qualify to purchase a lifetime license.

There is a freshwater fishing license, which is only needed for fishing in commercial pay ponds, unless the Department of Natural Resources permits this. Some of these include limits to the size and amount of fish you can catch per day, certain lakes that are permitted from being fished in, as well as certain types of fish that you can catch.
