The Knot

Donna Cavanagh
The outdoor extension cord lay in a knot
It is my fault its present condition
Too lazy to roll it up the last time it was used
To unravel it now, I need to be a magician

My patience is thin; I have hedges to trim
Why didn't I take the time before
If I put it away in a neat little coil
There would not be this tangled pile on the floor

I pull on the cord to untangle the knots
I admit that I am feeling the stress
Each time I get one clump of wire free
Another knot forms; crap, this is all such a mess

Finally, in frustration I throw down the cord
The hedges can wait for their trim
Maybe tomorrow I will find the patience
And untangling the cord will not be a chore so grim

That jumbled mass can be a metaphor for life
So much potential in that pile of tangled wire
The power will flow with determination and patience
Once free, we can achieve our greatest desire

When I find a knotted cord, it makes me want to put the item back and not even finish what I planned to start to begin with.

this is great! also reminds me of Christmas lights...arrg! we've learned in this house to take the time to wrap them up so their easier to unravel..but still somehow come out in a tangle so me being the more patient of the two of us, I unravel the mess and he puts them up (or does the hedge trimming :) ha ha....great poem!
