The Knuckle Curve: Learn to Throw Baseball's Most Deadly Pitch

Anthony Bowman
He knuckle curve is the MOST deadly pitch in the game of baseball. Hard to master, but impossible to hit, the knuckle curve takes off big time speed and drops right out of the strike zone. This pitch was used by great pitchers such as Mike Mussina, who learned to master this amazing pitch and its variations. I won't bore you with the history of the pitch, instead I will teach you how to throw and master this pitch.

Before you begin attempting to throw the knuckle curve, realize this: The knuckle curve is one of the hardest pitched to mast and gain control of. It requires extreme confidence and concentration. It is thrown with the knuckle of the index finger and the middle finger primarily. Hold the ball up so that the seams are parallel and vertical. Put your knuckle of your index finger on the inside of the inner seam and your middle finger on the outside seam(not the knuckle, just the finger). Drop the ring finger below the seam on the bottom and push up. Now throw this pitch directly at the head of the batter and it will drop into the middle of the strike zone.

Practice, Practice, Practice! Once you are done practicing, practice some more. Keep working the grip and make tiny adjustments if needed. This pitch will crush your opponents hopes of hitting with two strikes.

Yes, you are correct, however, maximum break can be achieved by using the knuckle on this pitch. This causes resistance on the turn of the baseball and allows the middle finger to create a large break.

For a knuckle curve you don't actually use your knuckles. Instead of your knuckle on your index finger, use your finger nail and dig into the seam on the left side. This gives more control over the ball. Even throwing a knuckle ball, you use the fingernails but bend your knuckles
