The Kobe & LeBron Puppets Take on Blitzen

For those of you who have not been watching your televisions, Nike has created an ad campaign using puppets with the likeness of National Basketball Association players Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. Dubbed the Nike MVPuppets, the TV commercials appeared on the airwaves about a year ago and can be found on Nike's website in the video section of the Nike Basketball page. The ads, normally depicting the friendly competition between the puppet Kobe and puppet LeBron, have flipped the script to create some braggadocio between the puppet basketball players and the puppet reindeer. This season's version of the MVPuppets have joined forces to challenge Santa's Reindeer to a friendly game of basketball. That's right, Kobe and LeBron vs. reindeer. To add some flair to the commercial, Nike has added the voice of a Hip Hop pioneer. Rapper KRS One is heard in the ad as a rapping Santa Claus. That's right boys and girls. The MVPuppet commercials have taken it to a new level. While playing basketball, the puppets rap a Christmas jingle. This puts an entirely new spin on Christmas Rap Songs!!! Maybe "Dunking on Reindeer" needs to be added to the list of Top 10 Christmas Rap Songs ==> bit.ly/1E7OL6 !!!

Just like the MVPuppets : Dunking on Reindeer song says, "1, 2, 1, 2. King James and Kobe, too."

Nike is obviously having a good time creating these commercials and the seasonal tilt is intriguing. Adding Santa Claus and some reindeer to the mix just adds to the interest level. I have to admit that Nike has used the likeness of two of the National Basketball Association's most recognizable players to the maximum. The more they use the MVPuppets, the more commercials they can crank out without needed to have the players available. Sprinkling in the holiday characters is likely to keep this commercial in rotation every year this time for the duration of the professional basketball careers of Kobe Bryant and LeBron James.
