The Lady at Weinbergs: "Have You Seen My Mother?"

ginny1
A very long time ago, when I was about 4 or 5. I used to walk all over town. One day, I went into Weinberg's and asked the lady at the counter, where you used to purchase stockings. I said " Have you seen my mother", and the lady said, I don't know your mother, but you can look around and see if you see her. So i went all over the store, asking "Have you seen my mother". So one lady took me upstairs to meet the owner of the department store. The owner said " perhaps i can help you". Well I said, i am looking for my mother. I know she works here. So I described my mother, and he said I know a lady in this store that looks just like her. So he took me to the ladies department. I then said, That's my mother. The lady said you must be mistaken. But I insisted. I know that's my mother. The owner said " the lady says "you must be mistaken", because she doesn't have any children.

Then the lady said, I am sorry I'm not your mother, but i am sure if you go on home and just sit down, your mother will be home shortly. So off I went to wait for my mother. Now I remember standing outside the door of the department store, and was all alone. But I just went in just like I was an adult and asked everyone. Have you seen my mother. Now the lady was very pretty, just like my mother. And I was so happy that I found her, she was such a nice lady.

But I went home to wait for my mother. So my mother said "what did you do all day"? Well, I went downtown and I was looking for you. I told my mother that I was looking for her and that I went to that store on the main street, that started with a W. But my mother said, O honey I work in Spears, on the other street, on the corner. But I didn't believe her. And I recall going in the store several times, to see the lady. But each time, she would say, I'm sorry honey, I'm not your mother. But you go home and just sit down and wait until your mother gets home. And off i would go, just as happy as a lark. All the way home.

You see the lady that worked in Weinberg's was the daughter of my grandmother, and she knew exactly where my grandmother was. At least I thought she did. Many years later, my mother said, your grandmother just bought a house and we are going to see her. I was so happy that she was alive and i was finally getting my grandmother back.

The lady at Weinberg's also knew where I came from. But I had forgotten that part of it when i was 4 or 5. I remember way back when I was a toddler, but all that spooky stuff is a secret.

I picked this lady for my very own mother. She was the best mother in the whole wide world.

The End

My mother would send me to school and i was a walker. The school would send me home alone, because my mother didn't have my birth certicate. Both parents were not mine and were at work. Thanks. i am alive and was happy. One of my little grandchildren I can't find. Thanks, ginny1

That is interesting. Were you left home alone when your Mom went to work?
