You will need to set up at least three tables each with four chairs. This will provide playing room for twelve players. Set up each table setting with a bunco tally sheet and pen. Each table should have a set of 3 dice. Designate one table as the head or leading table. The head table should have the master score sheet, bell, and fuzzy bunco die. You will find all the rules you need for bunko at http://www.buncorules.com/rules.html
Decorate the playing room according to your theme. For a tiki theme, use grass skirts to "dress" the table or string lanterns around the room. A Vegas theme could have poker chip coasters. Snowmen and fake snow could be used for a winter wonderland.
Pick a menu that everyone will enjoy. Remember to carry your theme throughout your planning to include food items and cocktail drinks. Easy finger foods that are not too greasy or sticky are the best choices. Winning at bunco relies on rolling the dice; therefore, you don't want to jeopardize that by serving greasy food. No matter how delicious the appetizer is, passing sticky dices is taboo.
Be sure to have a variety of cocktails to serve as well. Offer signature cocktails, such as a vesper for a Monte Carlo/James Bond themed party. Also serve regular beer, a light beer, and soda. Offer a signature non-alcoholic cocktail for those that don't drink. Remember a good host watches the amount of alcohol their guests are consuming.
Prizes for the game should follow the theme of the party as well. Also, ask your guests to dress according to the theme. Halloween or 1960s Mad Men costumes are especially fun for a bunco cocktail party. Provide prizes for best costume, or even worst costume for added fun.
Party favors are always great ideas. The favors should not only reflect the theme, but also bunko. Try finding fuzzy dice that go with your theme. If you decide to give a door prize, have it be a bunko game kit. You could also include tips on hosting a bunco cocktail party.
The key to having a successful bunco cocktail party is keeping it fun and informal. A bunco style cocktail party is a great way to great friendly rivalries as well as form new friendships. Hosting a bunco party is a perfect way to spend an evening with friends.
