The Larry King Live Show Ends This Week

As the moments tick closer to Larry King's last interview, I find myself wondering if others will miss watching new episodes of Larry King Live as much as I will. Although I imagine his retirement is long overdue, and I hope that he very much enjoys life after Larry King Live, it's still sad to think that the era of the Larry King Live Show is quickly drawing to a close.

It's not just that Larry King usually features very interesting guests on his program, although I must admit that I've been lured to watch an episode of Larry King Live on more than one occasion simply because his guest was going to be someone I was curious about. The thing that makes Larry King Live such an enjoyable program for me is that his interviews really humanize even the most famous celebrities in ways that bring them down to earth for the rest of us. Larry King has a way of chatting with his guests in such a genuine and natural manner, he often seems to enable the television audience to grasp the more interesting qualities in them, in contrast to other talk show hosts who seem to be themselves, acting, as they conduct a celebrity interview.

Despite the fact that the last new episode of Larry King Live will air this week, I find it almost impossible to believe that it will be over. I've learned so much about so many fascinating people because of the Larry King Live Show. One of the reasons I love the Larry King Live show so much, is that it has enabled me to give my children candid, insightful exposure to several American icons who they might never have otherwise known very much about.

Talk shows have never appealed very much to me. The things that draw me to the Larry King Live Show are his intellect, wisdom, and sense of humor as he interviews his guests. He asks interesting questions, and comes across as a genuinely kindhearted human being.

Plus, he reminds me of my Dad, who I lost last year. I have no real video footage of my Dad, and I admit, sometimes I turn on the Larry King Live Show simply to watch facial expressions, voice inflections, and mannerisms that bring back memories of my Dad to me.

So, as the Larry King Live Show draws to an end this week, here's hoping that the next leg of his journey enriches his life as much as he has enriched the lives of viewers all these years.
