The Larry King Show Ends Its Nightly Run

The Larry King Live show will end this fall. Larry King will continue to work for CNN, but his nightly broadcast will no longer be a part of CNN's lineup.

Larry King is stepping down after a 25 year run. The show is actually listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest continuous show with the same host in the same time slot.

There are various reasons for Larry King to leave his show. Many are personal and some are due to the fact that ratings have dropped.

Larry King plans on spending more time with his wife, Shawn Southwick. Shawn Southwick and Larry King started divorce proceedings in April, 2010, both of them citing infidelity, but dropped the case and reconciled. Shawn Southwick has also recently been in the headlines recently for a prescription pill overdose. She is currently recovering.

CNN will be scrambling to fill the vacant timeslot of the Larry King Show. There are many rumors and much speculation on who may be tapped to fill the slot. CNN has a talented pool of journalist and other names under consideration are rumored to be British star Piers Morgan and Katie Couric. The Associated Press reports King thinks Ryan Seacrest should take over.

Larry King will always be known for his suspenders and for major stories that broke on his show. OJ Simpson actually phoned the Larry King Show the night of his acquittal. Ross Perot made his announcement that he would run for President in 1992 on the Larry King Show.

The Larry King won two Peabody awards as well as an Emmy and was inducted into the National Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 1992.

It is good that Larry King will continue to be a part of the CNN Network. He will host topic-related specials of national and international importance.
