Once again, I have been asked about promotional techniques and methods that work. I have written on this topic before, but this is different. This is the condensed version on how to promote your articles and web content, in a condensed version.

Write it Well

While every writer has their own style, tight and direct writing works best for the web. Many successful web writers will tell you that writing for the web is different from writing for print.

Web writers have to focus on keyword density, keyword phrases, making writing and headlines searchable, and on catching a reader's attention very quickly.

The content needs to be either useful or entertaining. The content needs to be hot right hot now or be evergreen and have a long shelf life.

Most importantly, the article needs to contain actual content, not just fluff and promises.

I will give you the condensed version of everything I have learned in the past one year+ at AC. Most of this can be found in my various related articles about writing and promoting.

Make Content Searchable

Before actually promoting articles, comes the task of making articles searchable. Most people find content and articles through search engines.

This is the most important aspect of garnering pageviews: MAKE ARTICLES SEARCHABLE and web-friendly. It cannot be stressed enough. If you don't care about this, or think it is unimportant, just stop reading now. The rest of the article won't do you any good if your content is not searchable.

1. Always make sure keyword density is between 3-5%. No more and no less. I have more on how to do this here:

2. You may be wondering how to find popular keywords and keyword phrases.

When writers hear the word "popular" they worry that they will need to write about celebrities, news or sex to be successful online. Finding a popular word means finding the more searched keyword or keyword phrase contained in your content. It means use the right source as a thesaurus. For example, which is more popular: house cleaning or housework? Cheap or inexpensive?

There are a number of places to find this information including Google AdWords.

3. Keep up with popular keyword phrases and trends. For a list of sites, read this.

Promote Your Content

Once you've make your content searchable, the search engines will do some of the work for you. Extra promotion on your part can only help your cause.

1. Sign up for popular bookmarking sites including Digg. Find other AC members at Digg. For more on how to use and not abuse Digg, check here:

Many articles also fit well with del.icio.us, Netscape, StumbleUpon and Yahoo! Bookmarks.

2. Get regular AC subscribers and readers by consistently commenting on their work. "Reading groups" don't usually work. Establishing rapport with different, active (publish every day or week) does.

3. Take some time to sign up for the niche-based social bookmarking sites. The list of them can be found by clicking on "Share This" > More Bookmarks.

The services you pick will depend on your content. Find the bookmarking sites that are most aligned with your content. Sign up. Spend some time browsing and bookmarking articles. Become part of the community through participation.
