The Last Precinct is Another Fantastic Novel by Patricua Cornwell

The Last Precinct is a fantastic Patricia Cornwell novel. The Last Precinct is significant to any Kay Scarpetta fan. In this book things begin to change for Kay Scarpetta. After fleeing an attack by John Baptist Chandonne, Scarpetta finds herself in the middle of many problems. Scarpetta is accused of murdering Dianne Bray, the corrupt deputy chief of the Richmond Police Department. Every aspect of Kay Scarpetta's life is subject to scrutiny and she becomes increasingly isolated. After finding out she is under investigation for the murder, Kay is no longer certain of where she stands as chief medical examiner. It hurts Scarpetta tremendously to be accused of the thing she fights each day. Any Scarpetta reader knows Kay does not abuse her power.

Patricia Cornwell is one of the best mystery writers of this century. Cornwell has a fantastic talent for writing moving and intelligent stories. The Last Precinct will touch your heart and make you think. In the Last Precinct Scarpetta struggles with the death of Benton Wesley. As she had loved Benton for so long she finds it impossible to directly deal with his death. The bond between Pete Marino and Scarpetta is strengthened in the Last Precinct. The dedication these friends share is envious. Although Marino is hard on the Doc, he shows emotion in the Last Precinct and it will bring a tear to your eye when Scarpetta resigns as chief medical examiner of Virginia.

Everything begins to change in this delightful book. I admire Patricia Cornwell's ability to relate to real life. People change. It would have been easy for Cornwell to keep Scarpetta in Virginia. I personally enjoy the older books best, but the new themes and settings for the long running series will grow on you. Particia Cornwell has a terrific ability to shape her characters, and it is easy to relate to these fictional people.

Some of the best books in the Scarpetta series include the Body Farm, All that remains, and Life's little Fable Scarpettas Winter Table. Patricia Cornwell is consistent, intelligent and extremely talented. In the Last Precinct Scarpetta is triumphant in her search for justice, and it will anger you to see that Richmond turns its back on Kay Scarpetta after a decade of faithful service. It is so true, as that is the way of the world. What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty? I would recommend The Last Precinct to any Scarpetta fan. If you have never read a Scarpetta book, I would recommend starting out with Black Notice prior to reading the Last Precinct.
