The Law of Attraction and Affirmations

Sabrina Martin
A couple years ago the world was introduced on a massive scale to the "law of attraction" through the hit DVD "The Secret." There was something in the message of "The Secret" that touched millions of people across the globe. The information being shared was not new, in fact the law of attraction had been taught by many individuals for over a hundred years before "The Secret." So what was it about "The Secret" that resonated with people on such a deep level?

The simple and concise delivery of the message made it easy for a wide range of individuals to understand; it appealed to our desire to have all of the things we want in life by making it seem possible; but most of all, I believe it was so successful because people are ready for this message. We're all tired of the struggle, the pain, the suffering, and the stress. We want something better and we are realizing that all of the "things" we've been striving after are not bringing us what we truly want; which is inner joy, happiness, and peace.

"The Secret" told us something very important: what we focus on, we attract. This is where all of our power lies. The problem is that most of us do not focus on the things we want. No matter how hard we try, we seem to fall back into our old ways of thinking. Yet, we want so much to succeed at this.

This is why the self help industry is so amazingly successful right now, and that is why I want to share with you the power of affirmations. Just like "The Secret" affirmations are nothing new, but they are often discarded as being phony or useless. Consider this; our habitual negative thoughts are what cause most of our unhappiness. These thoughts have been programmed into our minds. The solution therefore, is to re program our minds to think the thoughts we want. This takes time and dedication, yet it is the only way to truly change our lives.

Affirmations are to be done every day, repeatedly. Yes, they will feel phony and ridiculous at first, but if you keep saying them despite this, eventually they will start feeling true. You will start believing them, and once that happens your life will begin to change.

We are ready for this transformation now, as individuals and as a whole. The popularity of such programs as "The Secret" and even more recently Oprah and author Eckhart Tolle's "A New Earth" web event, gives evidence of our eagerness and readiness to change.

The change begins with us, with our thinking. Affirmations are a simple and effective way to change our thinking. Many people are beginning to realize the power of affirmations in their life, and are embracing them as one of the first and most vital steps to living a truly joyful and fulfilling life.
