The Law: How Silly Laws Can Effect Our Lives!

Theresa L.
Have you ever sat down and really considered some of the laws that were made to govern man kind? There are many laws out there that would make you wonder what the creator was thinking when they made such a law. One of those laws is in the state of Michigan that states a woman can not cut her hair without her husband's permission because it legally belongs to their husband. Another law states that no man can seduce and corrupt an unmarried girl without risking five years in prison.

I bring these up because I am from the state of Michigan and earlier today I have read something in the news that bothered me. Lisa Snyder out of Irving Township in Michigan was recently threatened for taking care of the children of three friends. Each morning before work her friends would drop off their children at her house to await for the school bus and according to the Michigan Department of Human services it is a violation of the law.

The state of Michigan has a law that states you can not take care of anyone's children, other than direct relatives, for more than four weeks out of a year without having a proper day care license. Now I have read some stupid laws before, similar to the ones I listed above but this one takes the cake.

At the present moment in time the government is looking into the law and seeing what they can do to change it but I have to wonder what other silly laws are out there? Are we violating a law even now as we sit at home? The sad thing is it is not just Michigan. Many states and even the United States in general have laws that would be considered outdated. It is time the government in general takes a better look at the laws that govern us and make a few changes so they better protect us, not control us.

Unfortunately they do control us. I am a homeowner and I have insurance and each winter the folks from the city come into my little town, get drunk, and than head out on their snowmobiles through my property. So what happens when they go into a tree on my land? The law states that if a accident occurs on my property I am responsible even with no trespassing signs. Even better than that. Someone could break into my house, get hurt, and than SUE me because the law has put us citizen's at fault. So in order to protect ourselves we have to pay extra money for insurance.

A few years ago a young girl was playing chicken and a man on a snowmobile could not get out of the way in time. He hit her and was sentence to jail. Now I ask you, the readers, when will this all come to an end? When will our states, our government, stop and take a really good look at the laws they placed over us and decide it is time to make a change. How many other Lisa Snyder's or other innocent people have to be humiliated and hurt by the actions of laws that should never have been passed. Why should the innocent have to suffer for outdated laws?
