Raleigh, North Carolina are the laziest people in America-they spend the most on cable and pay-per-view services, which tells us that they are officially the worst couch potatoes in America! According to Bundle, Raleigh residents spent an average of $1,033 last year on cable alone. This could be because Raleigh has one of the highest student populations in America. The amount of expenditures on cable in Raleigh is five times the amount of Detroit residents, who had the lowest cable bill at $219 in 2009. On average, just for comparison, Americans typically spend $47.33 on cable per month.
Who is the second laziest city in America? Austin, Texas is the second runner up! They glue themselves to their TVs at the startling rate of $970 annually!
There's one town that stands out when it comes to leaving for vacation. These residents simply do not want to leave this palacios city! The city is none other than Chula Vista, CA. Those who live there only spend $676 on travel per year according to Bundle.
The city everyone wants to flee from, getting as far out of dodge as possible, is none other than Washington, DC. Those who live there spend an average of $3,409 every year on travel (there is no indication that this is business related according to Bundle). A lot could be said about why this is. I will leave the reader to his/her own conclusions!
According to Bundle, areas in America with the highest unemployment rates, like Detroit for example, spend greater amounts of money on travel. In Detroit, residents there spend 57% more on travel than the average American.
Single people really do have more fun! They don't have the expenses of owning a home, paying the plumber, the day care, the car maintenance; they rent more/buy less, spend more on entertainment/less on cable, and shop more. Boston residents, which has a lot of single people per capita, states Bundle, spends 95% more on entertainment, 48% less on their cars, 13% on their homes/maintenance, and 15% less on utilities.
For the most part, expect to spend the most on entertainment on the West Coast and the Northeast, where everything seems to be more expensive. (SEE CHART for more details)
Do you have kids? You are likely bored, states Bundle. Married people with children spend twice as much on entertainment. The single female without kids only spends one-fifth of the entertainment costs of a married couple with kids!
