The Legacy of Jeanne Sauve

Education

After her visit to Brazil, Jeanne Sauve, in her capacity as Governor General of Canada, established the Jeanne Sauvé Fellowship. The Jeanne Sauvé Fellowship is awarded to a Brazilian Canadian Studies graduate student each year.

She created two separate awards for students studying in the field of Special Education. True to her convictions, Jeanne Sauve created the Sauvé Foundation, "to develop the leadership potential of promising youth from around the world".

Safety in the workplace

Jeanne Sauve established the Governor General's Award for Safety in the Workplace

Sports

Jeanne Sauve created the Jeanne Sauvé Trophy, for the world cup championship in women's field hockey and she also established the Jeanne Sauvé Fair Play Award, for national amateur athletes who are nonviolent and practice fair-play in their respective fields.

Jeanne Sauve the Woman

On the one hand, Sauve was criticized for being aloof and having a sense of self importance, but on the other hand she was considered elegant, very charming, and was able to mingle with the common folk. She is recognized for her ability to work with children and the dignity she carried as head of state.

Jeanne Sauve also served as the Chancellor of Montreal's Concordia University at the time that this examiner attended the University. She was a great lady and loved by all Montrealers.
