The Legal Drinking Age in Texas

Samantha Miller
I watched the comedy, Carlos Mencia No Strings Attached. After watching this comedy video I began to wonder why can't soldiers have a beer at any age? This was a point he made in his comedy. We can send a soldier to war at any age as long as their enlisted. We can trust a 18 year old with a gun and send him to war. When the young 18 year old soldier gets back home if he survives that round, he can't have a beer because he is not 21 years of age. This makes no sense, this kid risked his life for our freedoms and to protect us. Yet all he can do legally to celebrate is have a cigarette.

In other country's such as Europe there are places that as long as you can see over the counter you can drink. In Texas the law is you have to be over 21 years of age. I remember the day I turned 21, I was so proud that I could legally buy alcohol. I went to the local liquor store and tried to buy a wine cooler. I couldn't even celebrate my birthday because they told me to come back tomorrow then I would be over 21.

There are even certain comedy clubs that you have to be at least 18 years old to get in. Why there are worse things on public television. Oh I dunno, like Viagra commercials talking about if a man stays erected for more than 4 hours go to the doctor. Every commercial is pretty much selling sex not the products. Well our children s cartoons now have cuss words in them and no one seems to care about that. If someone wants to hear vulgar comments and cussing they don't have to be 18 years old. They can hear it at home, in school, or by watching cartoons. So why would you put an age limit on hearing a funny comedian make a few jokes.
