The Legality of Online Gambling

Jimmy Smith
Online gambling is illegal in the United States. It is illegal to transfer funds to a casino, or to receive funds from a casino. Your bank will not cash or send a transfer to anything that it suspects is a casino. Thousands of people a year get into debt with online casinos. The debt is then sold to American collection agencies. This means that they can try to collect your debt by harassing you through phone calls and maybe even eventually take you to court if you owe them a lot. This is a huge gray area, but the general rule is, once the money is gone, you are not going to get it back.

Online gambling has been illegal in the United States for several years, in 1997 a bill was placed basically outlawing online gambling. In 2006, President Bush signed a bill that made it illegal for U.S banks or financial institutions to transfer money to online casinos. This made most online casinos pull out of the U.S market, however some stayed in and continued to take bets from the United States. This is at there own risk, because recovery of the debt and the legality of it is a big Grey area.

This is a big problem for Americans, and has ruined some people's lives, some people have bounced checks, and ran up multiple credit cards on online casinos. More then people's credit has been ruined here, people's lives have been ruined here. Online casinos are vicious, and you can lose track of how much money you are spending.

Playing with money online is not like playing with money in a casino, if you are playing a game like poker online here is a serious issue for you. What is to stop two players from sitting at the same table and sharing the cards they are holding over the phone? Nothing. Absolutely nothing, so online gambling is certainly not as safe as playing in the casino. At least the casino is somewhat fairly regulated.

In conclusion, Online gambling and casinos are a vicious multi-billion dollar a year enterprise that take money from Americans. Many of these casinos are not legit, some of them have even been blacklisted as stealing from their customers. Think twice before you give a foreign online gambling company your credit, debit or checking account information. You might just regret it in the long run, and you will also save yourself a lot of money!
