The Legend of the Candy Cane

Jessie Penn
A candy maker wanted to make a candy that was witness to Jesus Christ. First he used hard candy because Christ is the Rock of Ages.

The candy was made white to represent the purity of Christ.

The peppermint flavor is similar to hyssop in the Old Testament, to represent purification and sacrifice.

A red stripe was added to represent the blood shed by Christ. The three thinner strips represent the red welts He received on our behalf when Roman soldiers whipped Him.

This hard candy was formed in a "J" to represent Jesus, or when turned upside down, the Shepard's staff.

Jesus is the pure Lamb of God who came as a sacrifice for the sins of the world.

Wow Jessie, I had heard of the other representatives of the candy cane, but not the peppermint being similar to the hyssop. I learned something today. Thank you and Merry Christmas & thanks for sharing this and the joy of Jesus, the purpose behind Christmas. : - )
