The Legend of Red Sea Isle

GMJ
A lone crimson bird of a rare ancient breed flies over the Red Sea, looking for a place to land--to rest her weary wings. Down below she spies Red Sea Isle. In the very center of the isle, there is a huge tree with big limbs and branches growing in every direction.

"Ah! There is a place I can rest," she chirps with her penny-whistle voice. She starts to circle around the tree. "So many branches to choose from. I cannot decide where I want to land."

On a branch growing west, there resides a group of blue squirrels known as the Christies. "Come land on our branch oh pretty bird. The light of the sun shines on our branch, and only our branch bears the fruit of the tree. All the other branches are in darkness."

On the branch growing east, there resides a group of brown squirrels known as the Muslies. "The Christies are lying to you, beautiful bird. Our branch is the only one that bears fruit, and the light of the sun shines only on us!"

On branches growing to the north, south and diagonal directions, there are groups of squirrels known as Jewies, Hindies, Buddhies and Wickies. All cry out, "Our branch is where the light shines! Our branch bears the fruit! The other branches are in darkness!"

"Hush! All of you!" squawks her birdness. "Don't you see? All of your branches bear the fruit of the tree, and the light of the sun shines on all of you."

"You speak sacrilege!" shout the squirrels. "Be gone oh blasphemous bird!" All the squirrels then pelt the poor bird with rotten fruit. She flurries her wings then flies away. She is still very tired, but she is so scared, she finds new strength, and escapes Red Sea Isle.

The squabbling squirrels are not so fortunate. The ground begins to QUAKE! The tree begins to SHAKE! The island's volcano erupts and a hailstorm of hot sulfur falls on the tree and the surrounding land. Red Sea Isle sinks into the sea-and is no more.

Moral of the Story

We are all from the same tree. Even though our branches grow in different directions, they all bear the same fruit. Even though we have different colors and different creeds, the light shines on all of us.
