Game Background
The son of King Rodrick has been murdered by the slave and monster race Draylocks. The Leon Wars, a battle between the Draylocks and the humans, will test the slaves' desires for freedom and power and determine whether the humans have the ability to maintain their supremacy.
Gameplay
When you first begin the game, you will be given the option to choose one of two races. You can either play as the humans or the Draylocks. Regardless of which race you choose, the objective will be the same, namely to conquer new lands to expand your kingdom and destroy the opposing race.
Start the game by building an army. Initially, you can build up to three armies, which are assembled at your home base/castle.
Each army consists of a hero and other soldier units. The hero's skill level will determine the ability of the rest of the army, since the hero is the one commanding the army.
Fully created armies can be used to attack neighboring areas, which include villages, mines, and/or churches. Conquering and occupying new lands will add to your expanding kingdom and also help contribute to the revenue that your kingdom needs in order to support its may troops and other operations, including research.
Throughout the game, you may choose to conduct research for your race. By doing so, you will be able to make available a number of different units. Researching, however, can be costly and time consuming, so plan carefully what you will research along with what you plan to research.
In general, the further you are away from your home base/castle, the weaker your units will be in comparison to the enemy's units. Fortunately, the same goes for the enemy. The further they are from their home base/castle, the weaker they will be when attacking your units or base.
The gameplay during combat mode is turn-based. Depending on the skill level and abilities of your units, you will take turns with the enemy to make an attack.
Game Controls
This game relies heavily on clicking, as most commands are activated by clicking on a button.
The arrow keys on your keyboard can be used to scroll the map.
The space bar can come in handy when deselecting units of your army, or a location like a village, a mine, or a church.
Game Review
The Leon Wars is an extensive game that can be quite addicting if you are a fan of the turn-based fighting style. What makes this game so appealing is the vast number of upgrades for units that are possible. Also, the idea of being able to play as either humans or the Draylocks adds further appeal for the game. The graphics could be improved, but other than that it's a fairly decent game.
The Leon Wars scores an 8/10 for high entertainment value.
