The LG Incite Will Save You Money Over the Blackberry Storm

Essentially the Same Phone, but for Less Money

Jessica Bosari
Blackberry Storm users might be paying too much. The LG's Incite offers the same features at a cheaper price. If you are hooked on Blackberry's Solutions software, you might be willing to pay more. The rest of us should grab an Incite; here is why.

Windows Mobile, Blue-Tooth, GPS Navigation, Camera

Both phones offer the Windows Mobile operating system, famous for its excellent scheduling, organization and editing features. Both phones will give you Blue-Tooth compatibility and GPS Navigation for $9.99 per month. The cameras on both phones provide 3.2-megapixel resolution with video capture abilities.

Keyboard

The keyboard has proved problematic for both Blackberry and LG users. However, Incite users often become accustomed to the keyboard differences after abou one day, especially once the phone has been properly calibrated for the user. The Storm's touch keyboard has been a big let down for many users and is a huge failing for Blackberry.

Memory Expansion

The Incite offers expandable memory up to 32GB with a microSD card. The Storm only expands to 16GB.

Light Weights

The LG incite is an ethereal 4.3 oz. The Blackberry storm is a hefty 5.5 oz.

Battery

The LG has much better battery life than that Storm. But to give the Storm its due, the Blackberry has an easily changed battery, allowing you to bring along a spare. The extra battery will run you about $20.

Pricing and Plans

This is where the real difference shows between these two devices. The Blackberry Storm runs $199 with a two-year contract. The voice plans are roughly the same at $99.99 for unlimited voice. However, Verizon will charge you $45 per month for unlimited data, on top of $20 for the most generous messaging plan (if you should choose it).

Now look at AT&T's plan. They offer the Incite for only $99 with a two-year agreement. Unlimited voice is the same at $99.99. You can get unlimited messaging and data bundled for $50 per month or drop the texting and pay only $30 for unlimited data only. So, the Blackberry Storm is costing its users another $100 up front, plus $15 a month for data. You can use the savings you get from buying an Incite to buy the 32GB expansion microSD, which will run you about $125. The 16GB card will cost about $45.

Screen

Here is the one feature where Blackberry beats LG. The Storm has a bigger screen, about 3.5 inches. The Incite's has a three-inch screen, which has caused some complaints for texters who say they can see just one line of text while typing. This seems like a minor issue for business users who are more likely to use e-mail.

A Better Deal

The Incite, with the exception of Blackberry Solutions software, offers the same features as the Storm, but at a much cheaper cost. Over your first year, you will save $280 by choosing the Incite. When you look at it this way, the Incite pays for itself.
