The Library Life - Rhyming in Style with a Bibliophile

Linda Ann Nickerson
My parents always loved to read,
To cherish printed word,
And so they dragged me, guaranteed,
To mold me as a nerd.

They drove me to the library
And nearly drove me mad,
But, to the very contrary,
I didn't turn out half bad!

My mother read to me each night,
A chapter at a time.
By four, I read by secret light,
When into bed I'd climb.

When kids would call to hit the park
To toss a ball or bike,
I'd find my page with my bookmark
And tell them, "Take a hike."

My favorite friends appeared in print
On loan for two whole weeks.
I trusted them, without a hint
Of attitudes or piques.

Today I tie my hair on top,
My glasses on a string,
And I will linger to eavesdrop
On nearly anything.

My territory is the shelves,
Where dusty tomes are kept,
And when an eager reader delves,
I gladly will accept.

For I am the librarian;
My life is in the books.
I'm not an adversarian,
So save your dirty looks!

I love this, from one bibliophile to another - and why is spell checker saying I spelled that word wrong?

Poetry is hard to write, it takes knowledge of word and wit, sadly at these things, I'm not worth a s#!t. Good poem.

This poem that you wrote, you know
    is not a metered screed
it's proof that you are well and truly
    one of us who read.
