Rachel Heller
I am a huge movie buff. I love to watch my favorite movies over and over again. One of the best dramas of all time is Dead Poet's Society. This movie is heartwarming, full of meaning, and, best of all full of poetry. Dead Poet's Society is over 20 years old but it is a timeless classic. This is because it teaches us many life lessons in a polite way. Here are eight life lessons that are learned from Dead Poet's Society.

1. Carpe Diem: Carpe Diem means Seize the Day. We should make the most of each day because we never know when we will die.

2. Be your own person: Yes, we live in a society with others; however, being your own person is okay. In other words, individualism is necessary for mental growth and being yourself add to your and other people's lives.

3. Structure is not always good: Learning poetry from a book isn't always the best way of understanding it. In other words, sometimes it's okay to rip out a book's robotic introduction. However, use a ruler so that the pages rip out neatly.

4. Challenge the status quo: Yes, you must listen to your teachers; so I wouldn't make collect calls to heaven. However, change is is a good thing.

5. Writing Poetry isn't scary: Poetry writing is a creative way of expressing yourself. People will not make fun of you for liking to write poetry. I love writing poetry.

6. Poetry is awesome: It is creative and it can help you court a potential girlfriend or boyfriend. Knox did win Chris' heart finally due to poetry.

7. Honesty is the best policy: If you don't want to be a doctor, then don't be a doctor. Acting is a fine career choice; but, be honest from the start about what you want in life.

8.Stand up for others: This will make you feel better about yourself. In addition, it will show your friends that you will always be there for them.
