The Life Link Wristband: Keep Your Special Needs Child Safe

An Emergency Notification Information Device for Differently-Abled Children

Doreen Bradley Satter, RN
This is a very common scenario: A lone parent, usually the mother, left with the entire responsibility of caring for her special needs child. A huge percentage of families with one or more children with disabilities divorce and the care of the differently-abled child or children fall on the mother. Her life becomes extremely hard and lonely. Many times there isn't anyone available that can or is willing to relieve her by offering childcare or respite care so she can take a much needed break. A child with autism, for example, must be constantly monitored and kept safe. Some children try to escape or wander, and it is almost impossible to keep him within sight every moment of the day and night. Many other behaviors may also be present. in a child with special needs. The child may be violent, aggressive, angry, depressed, hyperactive, non-verbal, constantly talking or making loud, disturbing sounds, self-injurious or he may exhibit any number and combination of other behaviors.

I have just learned of a device that could help greatly with monitoring a special needs child and keeping him safe. This is a new and innovative wristband called Life Link and it is being introduced by Applied Digital Technologies of Salt Lake City, Utah. Life Link delivers immediate life saving medical history and information to a responder. The bracelet can also be programmed to set off the house alarm system or other notification systems if the child leaves a designated area or comes too near a danger zone (swimming pool, road etc.). It also can warn of an abduction and other life-or-death emergencies.

The Life Link is a driverless device that requires no external power supply. It is small, lightweight, shockproof and moisture proof and is capable of retaining important data for approximately 10 years. New data can be added at any time and the device can be rewritten over a million times. It also contains a GPS chip that makes it possible to track a lost child.

The wrist band is emblazoned with a Medical Emergency notification toll-free number and a user ID number which will allow a responder complete access to needed emergency information as well as provide instant notification to your doctor and other contact people that you have chosen. Other critical information can be programmed to provide a responder with specific data pertinent to your child. There are several other services that can be implemented too. Please use the website link at the end of this article to read more about what is available.

In the event of a life threatening illness, allergy, accident, abduction, or where medication administration is critical, Life Link is a stand-alone personal health record; an emergency contact; a parental peace of mind provider; and a life saving data device that monitors your differently-abled child, protecting him 24 hours a day.

The website link below can give you additional information on the wonderful, new Life Link emergency notification and medical information device. The yearly fee for monitoring services is extremely reasonable as the company wishes to make the device available to all who need it. Company contact information can be found on the website.

The GPS locator software, which has not yet been introduced, should be operational within the next quarter. The notification of the contact information, i.e. medical issues such as Autism, medications & allergies and insect sting reactions is currently operational.
