The Life and Times of Donkey Kong

A big hair monkey throws a barrel at you, what do you do? Jump over the barrel and climb some ladders better have been your first answer. If grab a hammer and swing it wildly up and down was your answer then at least you were on the right track. If you answered anything to do with shooting the monkey or eating his banana well you clearly have no idea how to succeed in life.

Donkey Kong has been around in video games for a long time now. He started off as that insanely cruel barrel hurling monkey who kidnapped the princess and has now become a good guy who drives a go kart around town. How did he transition from evil monkey to go kart wielding lovable character you might ask? Well that is what we are going to examine in this series entitled Donkey Kong. Other aspects of Kong's life we will examine are why he is named Donkey since clearly he is not a donkey. His relationship with Princess Peach will also be reviewed. Finally I will examine the story behind why an evil monkey overlord became a good guy wearing a tie and why he refuses to wear pants.

But in order to examine Donkey Kong in depth we must look at the basic information behind the monkey. We must dive into his past and look at what shaped Donkey Kong into who he is today. Let's begin shall we.

Donkey Kong is the son of Lloyd Kong and Queen Kong. Queen Kong as many know was the former wife to King Kong, the crazy ape who climbed the empire state building a long time ago. Lloyd Kong though not well known to the general public was an ape plumber. Lloyd spent his days face to face with fecal matter that wouldn't go down the pipes. Lloyd hated his job, and resented that his family never felt any sorrow for him when he would express how crappy his day was. Due to the lack of love in the household Lloyd became an alcoholic and would routinely beat his wife and children with old barrels from the cellar. It is believed that Donkey Kong himself learned to hate plumbers due to the actions of Lloyd.
