The Lingerie Football League: A Sure Way to Make Men Interested in Women's Sports

Women's sports seem to suffer and don't seem to draw the attention and support of men. Take the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). When the league was launched in 1996, everyone was excited.

Women were happy that there was now a professional sports league for females. Men were overjoyed that there would be sporting events on television with women perspiring and playing a physical game against one another.

But the success of the WNBA would not come to be.

Another approach was taken to creating a professional sporting league for women-one that would gain the support of women and men, one that could hold the interests of viewers and fans, and one that could stand the test of time.

Thus came the creation of the Lingerie Football League.

The Lingerie Football League (LFL) is a women's American football league that originated from the hugely successful Super Bowl halftime alternative television special called the Lingerie Bowl (LB).

The LB was a pay-per-view event that was broadcast at the same time as the Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show and featured two teams of models playing an American football game while dressed in lingerie. The two original teams were Team Dream and Team Euphoria.

Since the debut of the LB in 2005, the LFL has expanded to ten franchises including the Los Angeles Temptation, Phoenix Scorch, Seattle Mist, San Diego Seduction, Dallas Desire, New England Euphoria, Chicago Bliss, Atlanta Steam, Miami Caliente and Tampa Breeze.

The most notable player in the LFL is Melissa Berry, rookie linebacker for the Tampa Breeze. While Ms. Berry is a beautiful, talented football player, instead of being renowned for her football plays, she has recently been in the media after her ex-boyfriend released nude photos of her to the public.

In fact, the phrase, "Melissa Berry Nude Photos," was the number one Google-searched item on December 29th. Way to get your name out there.

Apparently, Berry is suing her ex-boyfriend, Mark Dawson, because the 45-year-old safe dating expert allegedly sent some racy pictures around after Melissa wouldn't pay Berry money for his broken phone.

Despite this small scandal, the LFL is sure to be entertaining to all who tune in. While some women will find this league to be very offensive, others will eventually cheer on the model football players. Let's just hope there aren't any "wardrobe malfunctions" during the football games.

You can catch LFL games in the Fall 2009, when they are set to air on cable television.
