The Lingering Pain of Love

Elisa Ashley
I can't hide my pain
My tears have a life of their own
My heart lies in shreds
Among the memories
My breath comes in ragged gasps
As I realize I can no longer breathe
Without you by my side
Without you on my side
I can't hide my pain
It lives on the surface of every day life
It seems to touch everything around me
I cannot escape
You

Not so long ago when we were us
The sun seemed to shine daily
My heart was happy and had its own song
And I was thrilled to have you by my side
I loved seeing you every moment
I loved to breathe you in
I enjoyed your extra long hugs
Because you couldn't bear to let go
Because you were afraid you would forget
my scent

After you have been gone a while
You memory too will fade.
My heart will ache because I cannot recall
The shape of your face while you sleep
The lingering scent of your soap in the bathroom
The heat from your body keeping me warm at night
My heart will break again
When I realize I cannot remember the little things
My heart breaks now
knowing I have lost the big things
My heart breaks
My heart bleeds
My heart is torn to shreds
