The Listing

A Flash Fiction Piece

Julie Richards
Jill ran past him in a flurry of cotton and trailing ribbons, her perfume lingering in the air after she passed. David turned to watch her go into the real estate office, as she did every morning. Drops of coffee splattered the sidewalk in her wake. Three months of the same scenario piqued his curiosity. David found himself thinking of her often.

Jill barely noticed the coffee stains on her listing contracts when she rushed into the office. She was remembering the details of the flannel shirt and jeans as they outlined the build of the man outside. Others may not have noticed, but his rough appearance and bulky frame turned her on.

When David walked into the office, Jill's heart almost stopped. His deep voice had her nerves tingling. It was all she could do to remain calm as he set an appointment to tour her listing. Her listing that she considered a dream home. Her listing that he bought and carried her over the thresh hold a year later.
