The Little Building Cafe in Starkville, Mississippi - a Restaurant Review

Starkville, Mississippi, is known for a few things, mainly Mississippi State University football. Being a university town, it is a rare occasion when there is absolutely nothing happening. But in between game days and the hustle and bustle of college students, the town seems to go back to its small-town feel. There is a farmer's market during the summer that spills over into the early fall. Throughout the year there are a couple of festivals that are annual events.

But in the heart of Starkville there are many local businesses beginning to spring up. One of these local businesses is called The Little Building Cafe. As a Starkville native I've always passed by it when driving, and my first thoughts are always "I should stop by there sometime." One Saturday morning I did just that. I left the Starkville Farmer's Market, my camera in hand, and strolled down to Little Building Cafe. From the first look of the outside, the color of the building draws you in. In terms of Crayola color names, the building would be along the lines of a Robin's Egg Blue. Owned and operated by sibling team Annie and Ted Coggan, the building just calls you in, as if to say "Come in. Have a cup of coffee, and sit down for a while." I went in and the first thing that I noticed was the atmosphere of the cafe. It was quaint with monochromatic colors that catch your eye as you walk through the door.

The barista was so friendly. She took my order and told me to sit anywhere. I chose to sit on the bench that ran across the back wall. On the back wall, for decorations, they had pieces of what looked like green fishing line with clothes pins attached to the line. It was a very creative and unique touch. When I'm in new places I like to sit back and take in my surroundings. One of my many favorite things about this cafe was the light fixture (chandelier maybe?) that was at the front. This cafe had such character, from the light fixtures to the tables. Not to mention the intersting display of art on the walls. The art consisted of 2 different chair halves put together to create a whole chair. I'm not sure what the artist calls these wonderful and unique masterpieces, but for the sake of this review, I'll call it "chair art". There were so many things I loved about this cafe. Take the tables for example; they were so colorful and modern, with a twist of unique! It is safe to say that I have fallen in love with this cafe and all the charm that it holds. I hope that when you visit Starkville, be it for a Mississippi State Bulldogs sporting event or just to enjoy the beauty of the town, you'll stop by The Little Building Cafe and experience the beautiful place for yourself.
