The Long Island Lolita Finds New Celebrity Status with a Sex Tape

News of Amy Fisher's sex tape is nothing out of the ordinary these days. What is out of the ordinary is her promotion of this video. Fisher id the first celebrity I've seen that has done the smart thing for once. Rather than trying to fight a losing battle to get the video removed from the internet, she has decided to accept a six figure deal to promote it. Let's face it, sex tapes are a great way to bring a fading celebrity name back into the spotlight. They are no longer seen as taboo disgraces to be ashamed of. Nowadays, they are so common that some celebs release them intentionally to boost their status. The common public sees these videos as instant street cred. The sentiment is "Wow! You did a sex tape? You must be cool." Paris Hilton's sex tape launched her "career" in the celebrity world. Chyna's video rekindled her flickering fame flame after she left pro wrestling. And women were all over the net in swarms trying to get the Colin Farrel video, showing that sexual exploitation works for both sexes.

These celebrity sex tapes now have entire websites devoted to them. Amy Fisher did the most intelligent thing anyone in her shoes could do. She's not pretending to be ashamed of her newfound hype. She's running with it, allowing it to open doors and enhance her bank account. Really, why waste the publicity trying to rebuild the dam, when you could be riding the wave? Once this stuff is on the net, everybody and their cousin is downloading it and spreading it all over the world. There's no stopping it. You can't unbreak a glass, and you can't remove every copy of it from every part of the information super highway.

With the promise of publicity that would ordinarily be wasted in a futile court battle that could cost thousands of dollars, the ideal course of action would be to use it to her advantage. The old saying "Sex sells!" is a very real ideal that celebs thrive on. The only thing that any self-respecting celebrity, no matter how trivial their status is, can do is to use that to their advantage in every way possible. Because of these videos and the public's desire to see famous people in all their naked glory, I am surprised that we haven't seen more of them. I am sure this is not the last we will hear of the Long Island Lolita. She'll probably get another book deal, some public appearances and maybe even a professional porn career out of this. The thought is slightly disturbing, but very possible with the state of today's sex driven culture.
